If you are looking for a unique and rewarding experience, volunteering with us is perfect for you! Since 2020, we have had the pleasure of welcoming volunteers from all over the world who share our passion for animals and our commitment to the shelter.

Being on a gap year, I was looking for an association to volunteer with for a while. When my cousin Clara told me about Indie’s World, I immediately said yes. Taking care of dogs and giving them a second chance instantly made me want to go to Mauritius to help Indie’s World in my own way. I never had a dog growing up — I was always more surrounded by cats — but I was always interested in dogs and enjoyed taking care of them when I could. The idea of having one always tempted me, and when I found myself taking care of 110 dogs, I immediately understood that dogs would have a big place in my life. Indie’s World was an incredibly enriching experience for me. I learned so much about dogs and about myself. I encourage anyone who is still hesitating to take part in this amazing experience to go for it — it can only bring you good things. I thank the Indie’s family from the bottom of my heart, and I say “see you soon,” because I’m sure my adventure there is not over. And who knows — maybe next time I’ll be coming back with a travel companion 🙂
Spending a month at Indie’s World was an extraordinary experience.
I lived through painful moments and difficult goodbyes, but I also keep in mind many moments of joy, laughter, and love.
This experience will leave a mark on my heart. It will also change my life, as I am returning to Switzerland with my little Yang.

Dear big Indie’s World family, after a rather difficult year, I decided to fly to Mauritius and discover your association, with my physical and mental limits — which were accepted with such kindness. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of life at the shelter, from maintaining the enclosures, feeding, care, training, and above all giving affection, love, and walks to all the dogs. Loving dogs, I decided to go on a crazy adventure as a volunteer at Indie’s World for one month. One hundred and ten dogs at the shelter to fill our hearts, who thanks to Malika and Cindy have the chance for a second life.
Our job is to make their lives better while they wait for adoption. They need us in every possible way — through volunteering, donations, sponsorship… A crush was born for me there, not only for a dog but also for the island. It was an unforgettable experience.
